The Nordic telco said it aims to launch commercial services based on NB-IoT in the coming months
Telia Finland is conducting its first live network tests of NB-IoT and LTE-M technologies for the internet of things (IoT). The Nordic telecoms group said the projects have been executed in partnership with Nokia, Keysight Technologies and iProtoxi.
The carrier expects to launch a full commercial service based on these technologies in the coming months. The network test were carried out in the city of Vallila.
The operator said the tests showed data transfer on the Nokia-equipped LTE network with NB-IoT at up to 250 Kbps and LTE-M at up to 1 Mbps.
“With this test, you can finally say that the future is starting now. We showed that, for example, temperature values can actually be measured and transferred with this new technology directly from the sensor via the mobile network to the customer display, “said Mikael Sundholm, Telia’s business manager.
Telia said that the company used NB-IoT network simulation environment/testing software from Keysight as well as an iProtoXi sensor solution.
Japan Communications working with Baicells to foster IoT development
In other IoT news, Japan Communications has reached an agreement with Chinese firm Baicells Technologies on a strategic partnership regarding joint business development of an unlicensed LTE network, which will serve as the foundation for the IoT solutions for the Japanese market, the former said in a statement.
Japan Communications said that a comprehensive and detailed agreement will be reached by the end of 2017. The strategic partnership includes building networks, specific IoT solutions which will be supported by a new revenue sharing business model which will include the two companies as well as other partner companies.
This platform will be initially provided to MVNO operators, enterprise corporations, and small and mid-size businesses for the use of specific applications for their IoT solutions.
Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan Communications also has offices in Denver, Colo., and Ponte Vedra, Fla., in the United States, and Dublin.
