IoT testing takes center stage as China Telecom looks to deploy a nationwide IoT network.
U.S. firm Keysight Technologies announced its cellular-based internet of things testing solution was selected by China Telecom to help accelerate its narrowband IoT chipset and module certification process.
Based on the E7515A UXM wireless test set, Keysight said it is the only IoT testing platform vendor to support China Telecom’s NB-IoT RF conformance test and power consumption verification. NB-IoT is designed to enable telecom operators to run IoT services on existing commercial networks to provide diverse applications.
Keysight said its cellular IoT testing solution, chipset, module, device and test labs will be able to verify performance, such as power consumption, RF performance and interoperability when rolling out NB-IoT applications.
“Keysight’s UXM is the industry’s first wireless test set to demonstrate RF measurements with NB-IoT and Cat M1 devices and to provide a solution that ensures compliance to the standards,” said Garrett Lees, senior director, Keysight’s Operator and Test Lab Business. “Working with key industry leaders and telecom operators, such as China Telecom, has allowed us to offer a complete solution that covers cellular IoT design, verification, interoperability and carrier acceptance test.”
Last year, the Chinese operator said that it was looking to roll out a nationwide NB-IoT network using spectrum in the 800 MHz band. China Telecom launched LTE services in February 2014, and supports the service with spectrum in the 1800 MHz, 2.1 GHz, 2.3 GHz and 2.5 GHz bands.
ZTE and China Mobile recently completed the operator’s first NB-IoT field test in Guangzhou. ZTE said the trial involved the validation of core network, service, terminals and wireless equipment for NB-IoT with both single mode and multimode networking.
