Verizon bested rivals at MLB venues with Fenway Park tops among stadium peersM
With the Major League Baseball playoffs quickly reaching their final matchup, RootMetrics released stats on how cellular carrier data networks performed at 29 MLB venues.
Among mobile operators, Verizon Wireless scored the most No. 1 rankings, with RootMetrics giving the carrier outright wins or tied for wins at 15 of the 29 locations. T-Mobile US was a close second, garnering first place or a share of first place at 10 venues.
AT&T Mobility was a distant No. 3 in the overall rankings, garnering first or a share of first place at just five venues. Sprint was least celebrated in the survey, posting first place or a share of first place performance at three MLB parks.
Boston’s Fenway Park was ranked No. 1 in terms of overall cellular data performance, just edging out Turner Field in Atlanta.
Of the stadiums that remain in use as of today, Chicago’s Wrigley Field posted the highest overall RootMetrics score, with an observed fastest median download speed of 5.8 Mbps and upload speed of 8.4 Mbps. AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile US and Verizon Wireless were noted for their abilities to connect customers to a data session, while all four nationwide operators were lauded for their ability to maintain a connection.
Citi Field, home of the New York Mets, slotted in at a distant No. 2, limited by a fastest cellular median download speed of 2.6 Mbps and upload speed of 4.1 Mbps. Verizon Wireless was the only carrier at that location to be noted by RootMetrics for enabling and support a cellular data connection.
Kauffman Stadium, which is home to the Kansas City Royals, was the lowest ranked stadium among all venues in the report, despite a Herculean effort from hometown carrier Sprint. Sprint managed to post a fastest cellular median speed of 14.6 Mbps and upload speed of 3.8 Mbps, but overall stadium performance was dragged down by poor speed results from T-Mobile US, Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility.
Rogers Centre, where the Toronto Blue Jays play, was not included in this round of testing.
RootMetrics earlier this year judged Verizon Wireless the best performing nationwide cellular operator, followed closely by AT&T Mobility. Sprint managed to just nudge out T-Mobile US for the No. 3 spot, which resulted in their respective CEOs taking to Twitter to hash our their feelings.
