FlexWave DAS host unit from TE Connectivity achieves NEBS compliance
Technology solutions firm TE Connectivity announced that its FlexWave distributed antenna system host unit has received certification for carrier-grade network application.
Specifically, the DAS achieved Network Equipment-Building System Level 3 compliance, meaning it’s acceptable for carrier central office equipment.
The compliance standard was developed by Telcordia Technologies and considers factors such as RF emissions, acoustic limits, failover, vibration resistance, thermal margin testing and other variables.
“We aim to lead the world in cloud RAN [radio access network] architecture, and this certification goes a long way toward making our FlexWave host standard equipment in central offices,” Peter Wraight, VP and GM of TE Wireless, said in a statement.
“NEBS Level 3 compliance allows our customers to take advantage of existing real estate in central offices to streamline the management of their networks by making the most of their physical assets. With an all-digital DAS design that delivers the performance and flexibility to provide wireless services everywhere from inside of business, arenas and stadiums, to urban cores and suburbs, offering a strong business case for next-generation wireless networks.”
The FlexWave host units can be installed using existing wireline infrastructure.
DAS player CommScope in January agreed to buy TE Connectivity’s telecom, enterprise and wireless businesses for roughly $3 billion. Together, the two network infrastructure giants had $5.8 billion in revenue during the fiscal year ended in September.
TE Connectivity, based in Switzerland, sells into markets around the world. The acquisition will bring CommScope approximately 7,000 patents and patent applications worldwide from TE Connectivity.
The company on April 22 reported first quarter net sales of $3.1 billion, up 4% from the prior year; free cash flow was $217 million and $261 million was returned to investors.
TE Connectivity Chairman and CEO Tom Lynch said, “I am very pleased with our performance for the quarter. Our growth in the quarter was led by strong performance in automotive, commercial aerospace, industrial equipment appliances …”
