TelePacific Communications, announced that it has received regulatory approval for and completed the acquisition of fixed wireless internet service provider NextWeb, Inc., dba Covad Wireless. Through its acquisition of NextWeb, TelePacific now controls a WiMAX-featured wireless broadband network, a licensed microwave backhaul network, and a high bandwidth wireless network operating in licensed LMDS spectrum.
The NPD Group announced that it has finalized the acquisition of In-Stat, analyst research company focused on the mobile internet and digital entertainment industries. As the newest addition to NPD’s analyst-based services, In-Stat will operate in conjunction with DisplaySearch, an NPD Group Company, to provide global technology analysis and information for a growing client base.
Metaswitch Networks, infrastructure and applications supplier to network operators, announced the acquisition of Colibria, provider of enhanced instant messaging, presence and network address book solutions. Colibria’s all-IP, standards-based portfolio is being deployed by operators worldwide to deliver advanced messaging and content sharing capabilities.
Brightstar, announced it has reached an agreement to acquire eSecuritel, provider of cell phone and wireless products insurance services, from its current owners comprised of Mainsail Partners and management. Through the agreement, Brightstar will be able to quickly integrate eSecuritel’s handset protection services into its global services platform. Brightstar anticipates closing the transaction within the next ten business days.
Google Inc. announced that it is bidding $900 million for Nortel Networks Corp.’s patent portfolio. Nortel filed for bankruptcy in 2009 and has been selling parts of the company. In a press release Nortel announced the bid as “a stalking horse asset sale agreement with Google Inc. for the sale of all of Nortels remaining patents and patent applications”. Other companies interested in bidding for the patent include Apple, Ericsson, and Research In Motion. Read more here
