@ CTIA: Huawei explains contextual mobility

ORLANDO, Fla.—Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. showcased a portfolio of microcell solutions designed to “densify” the network, adding capacity where operators need it, according to the company.
Advances in the network will allow it to decide whether the customer should be offloaded to the Wi-Fi network or remain on the commercial wireless network, the company said. “It’s not just about mobility, but about contextual mobility,” said Madan Jagernauth, VP of wireless marketing and product management at the company. The infrastructure vendor said its solutions are available today, designed for adding capacity for operators, not just coverage, Jagernauth said. With multi-layer heterogeneous network, the network gets more sophisticated and will note whether the end user is moving fast, like in a vehicle, walking or stationary. Then, the network can decide whether to offload the customer to a Wi-Fi network, or keep them on the licensed network.
