AT&T closes Aloha deal: Telecom giant secures precious 700 MHz spectrum for $2.5B

AT&T Inc., parent company of the largest U.S. mobile phone carrier, said it completed the $2.5 billion purchase of Aloha Partners L.P.
“AT&T is committed to connecting our customers to their worlds,” said Forrest Miller, group president of corporate strategy and development. “The addition of Aloha’s spectrum will facilitate AT&T’s ability to continue to meet increasing customer demand for mobile services.”
Aloha’s 12 megahertz of spectrum in the 700 MHz band covers many major metropolitan areas, including 72 of the top 100 and all of the top 10 in the United States. Aloha had previously trialed a mobile TV service using its spectrum holdings.
The Federal Communications Commission recently approved the AT&T-Aloha deal.
In addition to acquiring Aloha’s licenses, AT&T is bidding for additional 700 MHz spectrum in the auction being conducted by the FCC.
