Alcatel-Lucent came out swinging at the Mobile World Congress event this week. The company added to the pile of news it’s made by announcing a deal with AT&T Mobility to further expand the No. 1 carrier’s UMTS/HSPA wireless network. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
The infrastructure vendor originally signed a supply agreement with the carrier in 2004. This new contract expands on that agreement.
The deal calls for Alcatel-Lucent to provide the carrier with its UMTS/HSDPA Distributed NodeB solution, which enables operators to deploy 3G radio network elements in a variety of locations, the company said.
Earlier this week, Alcatel-Lucent announced a joint venture with Japan’s NEC Corp. to partner on LTE technology. It also partnered with Research In Motion Ltd. to develop an application to allow prepaid users to track voice and data usage against the amount remaining in their account.
Company stock has marched a steady, but incremental increase since the MWC event kicked off Monday. Alcatel-Lucent’s is up about 1% to $6.13 today.
