PROVIDENCIALES, Turks and Caicos Islands-Caribbean wireless carrier Digicel Group plc gave L.M. Ericsson the nod as its exclusive infrastructure provider to build out its GSM network across the Turks and Caicos Islands, a British colony in the West Indies.
Since Digicel’s launch in 2001, Ericsson has been the company’s preferred infrastructure vendor throughout Caribbean regions including St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada, Aruba, Barbados, the Cayman Islands, Haiti and Trinidad & Tobago. Digicel said it was awarded a license to operate in the Turks and Caicos Islands on April 3, furthering the company’s plan to build a seamless pan-Caribbean wireless network.
Digicel said it plans to offer Turks and Caicos Islands customers per-second billing, prepaid roaming, GPRS, rollover minutes and Internet-based billing and recharge services.

The Turks and Caicos Islands are home to 7,500 people across 166 square miles.
