Personal Emergency Response System or PERS, and Connected Health are being upgraded, says the MAMA 2023 Annual Conference, which was recently held in New Orleans. This was the Medical Alert Monitoring Association 16thannual event highlighting the importance and focus on upgrading emergency services systems locally, regionally and nationwide, and wireless is playing and important role.
MAMA says they are the professional trade association representing the needs of the medical alert monitoring and personal emergency response services industry. They are focused on the advancement of technology in the industry.
They provide the ability for a wide variety of companies, executives and engineers to come together, share their thinking and further advance the areas of emergency services and connected health.
MAMA says their members provide 80% of Emergency Services in U.S.
MAMA says their members provide emergency services to more than 80% of medical alert customers in the United States.
Starting in 2007, they have focused on and represent the changing environment and needs of their members, the industry and its customers. They are also advocates for legislation and regulations which enhances end-user safety.
As each year passes, wireless is playing a key role in this transformation and upgrade.
The challenge is the continual need to update as the world of technology changes like wireless, data networks and the Internet.
The world of emergency services has grown and changed so much over the past few decades.
Yesterday, the focus was to bring these emergency services to the landline in the home or office. Today, that has expanded with all the new wireless devices we use like smartphones, tablet’s, watches as well as Internet and data network devices.
Wireless is becoming important slice of emergency services pie
Bringing emergency services, sometimes advanced emergency services, to each of these is the new challenge and an FCC directive.
Today, users are always out and about. Because need emergency services, this puts new pressure on the industry to know where we are at all times. That is the only way to be there quickly, every time.
This means new wireless technology and systems as well as databases of user information which can interact with unlimited users, whether locally, regionally or nationally.
Viiz Communications, Kore and Climax MAMA panel discussions
Viiz Communications led one of the panel discussions titled “The Impact of Medical Monitoring Devices on the 9-1-1 PSAP Community.” They have compiled a database of information on users and their wireless devices.
You see, carriers are required by the FCC to either compile their own databases or they are to work with others who do this for them. This Viiz database is such a database for carriers.
KORE led a panel on “Future-Proof PERS with eSIM” showing how new technology is key to making the communications services we use today ready for the future.
Climax led the panel called “Industry Convergence Powering Innovation” and FallCall discussed “The False Fear of Big Tech.”

Wireless and data networks changed nature of emergency services
Wireless and data networks like the Internet play a key role as the emergency services sector grows and changes. In fact, wireless and data networks have completely reinvented the need for the entire emergency services sector.
Yesterday, when it came to emergency services, we called from a place, and they knew exactly where we were in a landline world.
In today’s wireless world, it is more difficult to make sure we know where every wireless device is so emergency help can be sent ASAP.
That’s the challenge.
