IBM’s new facility will focus on IoT, AI, blockchain and quantum computing
IBM has launched a new innovation center in Abu Dhabi which will mainly focus on advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), cloud, blockchain, security, analytics, internet of things and quantum computing.
IBM’s Innovation and Industry Client Center in Abu Dhabi will work to fast-track the digital transformation of both public and private organizations.
The new IBM center joins a worldwide network of innovation centers in more than 33 countries.
“The role Abu Dhabi is playing in innovation, specifically artificial intelligence, makes it attractive for international companies. IBM’s decision to have its Innovation and Industry Client Center in the capital is a clear sign of trust that this emirate holds with major investors and international companies in various sectors,” said Jassem Al Zaabi, Chairman of Abu Dhabi Executive Office.
“Abu Dhabi’s investment in ICT will create a new market capable of attracting global investors, and support the private sector initiatives and enhance its contribution, in addition to building a strong foundation in R&D,” he added.
IBM’s new facility will host a number of demos and IBM solutions across key industries, including government, healthcare, renewable energy, technology, aviation transportation and aerospace.
“IBM’s new center will support R&D in artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies to help enhance the quality of work, life and services,” said Rauda Saeed Al Saadi, director of the Abu Dhabi Smart Solutions & Services Authority.
“The center will also create a collaborative and a digitally immersive environment in which we put our clients first, enabling them to make decisions based on design thinking methodologies and real-life business scenarios,” said Amr Refaat, GM for IBM in the Middle East and Pakistan.
Smart Dubai launches global network to share smart city experiences
In related news, Smart Dubai launched the “Smart Dubai Global Network,” which claims to be the largest international network of smart city stakeholders.
The network’s focus topics include relevant areas in the field of smart cities including big data, artificial intelligence, blockchain, digital identity and shared services platforms, among others.
“This is the result of three years of research about smart cities and initiatives. Our way to give back to the communities of smart cities is by providing them with a digital platform to share their knowledge with others,” said Aisha Bint Butti Bin Bishr, director general of Smart Dubai.
Smart Dubai is the government office in charge of the implementation of smart city initiatives across the emirate.
