New report highlights SDN orchestration market growth

A new report published by MarketsandMarkets projects the software-defined networking (SDN) orchestration market to swell from $214.7 million in 2017 to $4,458.5 million by 2022, at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 83.4%. Key vendors profiled included Cisco, Nokia, Ciena, Juniper, Huawei, among others.

SDN orchestration is a way to automate network behavior from a centralized control plane, allowing the system to effectively coordinate with hardware and software components to support applications and services. For example, SDN orchestration can be used to begin an automated process necessary to meet a customer service order requested either manually or on a customer web site.

Based on the end user, the authors of the report found that telecom service providers made up the largest share of the SDN orchestration market in 2017. Per the report, “The use of SDN orchestration solutions by telecom service providers results in improved data transfer rates, low operational costs, and access to new revenue streams. Telecom service providers strive continuously to offer new and innovative services to their potential customers.”

The SDN market encompasses many regions, including North America, Asia Pacific (APAC), Europe, the Middle East and Africa (MEA), and Latin America. North America is expected to head the SDN orchestration market in 2017, according the report. The Asia Pacific SDN orchestration market is projected to grow at the highest CAGR during the forecast period as a consequence of an increased number of data centers in the region. Other countries in which the SDN orchestration market is anticipated to grow at significant rates during the forecast period include India, China, Russia, Australia and Japan.

According to the report, an increase usage of innovations with the realms of cloud computing, mobility solutions, network virtualization and Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) has created a greater demand for SDN orchestration from end users, thereby growing the North America SDN orchestration market. The report attributed the increased adoption of SDN orchestration by enterprises in this area to the use of big data analytics, advent of complex network traffic patterns, and demand to build networks capable of providing enhanced support for various business functions.
