Cradlepoint NetCloud Solution Package subscription model targets branch offices

Cradlepoint announces new subscription-based solution pricing model

Moving forward with its Elastic Edge strategy, Cradlepoint announced a new subscription-based solution pricing model for software and cloud-based wireless wide-area networks (WANs). Cradlepoint’s NetCloud Solution Packages serve as a basis for the new model.

Cradlepoint offers an Elastic Edge for branch, mobile and IoT networking applications. It serves as a blueprint for software-driven wireless WANS. Subscription-based pricing, on the other hand, is commonly used for cloud computing, which allows users to purchase a particular IT service for a period of time.

“Of course, the value of NetCloud Solution Packages is not limited to connecting and protecting cloud computing services,” CMO at Cradlepoint Todd Krautkremer told RCR Wireless News. “However, the all-inclusive subscription is very similar to the pricing models you find in cloud computing where you don’t pay separately for the underlying hardware (i.e. server) — it’s just part of the solution. The other similarity is support — it just baked into the service. Where there is a difference today is that Cradlepoint’s minimum term is 1-year whereas cloud services can be purchased on a consumption basis (e.g. compute hour).”

Cradlepoint network solution as subscription is intended to provide the benefits usually coupled to software-as-a-service (SaaS) as the company moves from a hardware to software first business. Each subscription package can be made for specific market needs, according to the company, combining NetCloud software and services, fit-for-purpose endpoint hardware and comprehensive 24×7 support.

“With today’s announcement, everything changes. Hardware, NetCloud software and services, and our comprehensive 24×7 support are all packaged into an all-inclusive subscription, with a single SKU, that can be purchased in a 1-, 3-, or 5-year terms and is ready to deploy,” said Krautkremer.

“Additionally, each NetCloud Solution Package is tailored to meet the needs of a specific market segment — branch, mobile or IoT networking. This approach greatly simplifies the customer’s buying journey and accelerates their deployments and time-to-value. At the same time, by combining hardware, NetCloud and support into a single subscription, Cradlepoint is able to provide more competitive solution pricing across segments with savings ranging from 6% to 33% over the previous ala carte pricing structure.”

Cradlepoint said it is debuting its first new product under the NetCloud Solution Package model at the National Retail Federation show in New York City, N.Y. The NetCloud Solution Package subscription model for branch offices includes AER2200 Edge Router, AP22 Access Point and NetCloud Manager.

“NetCloud Solution Packages simplify how customers buy, deploy, manage and support an entire branch site network,” said Chief Product Officer at Cradlepoint Ian Pennell. “Instead of navigating a myriad of separately priced software, hardware and support options, just two or three SKUs deliver a complete wireless branch solution with the cloud management and support customers need to be deployed and operational quickly and easily.”
