Services for connected cars will be provided through Huawei’s OceanConnect IoT platform
Huawei has announced a long-term partnership with French car manufacturer Groupe PSA focused on service enablement for connected cars. Groupe PSA has multiple car brands under its umbrella, including Peugeot, Citroën, DS and Opel. The partnership will see both companies collaborate in the connected cars space to provide innovative mobility services and solutions to customers.
The connected vehicle modular platform (CVMP) developed by Groupe PSA is based on Huawei’s OceanConnect IoT platform. This platform will provide innovative mobility services to customers. The Asian vendor said the CVMP will be deployed globally on top of Huawei’s Cloud Family public cloud, to help connect hundreds of millions of vehicles and different industries. Such connectivity will enable integrated development of connected cars, smart homes, and smart cities, providing a full range of services for individuals and automobiles.
“Huawei is proud to become a partner of Groupe PSA in their global mobility service strategy,” said Eric Xu, Huawei’s rotating CEO. “Groupe PSA leverages innovative solutions to provide mobility services to their customers. I believe that, by working with partners, Groupe PSA will be able to turn their mobility services into a new benchmark of the global automobile industry,” Xu added.
SoftBank partners with Honda to develop tech for connected cars
In related news, Japanese telecom operator SoftBank and compatriot firm Honda R&D Co., a wholly owned subsidiary of car maker Honda, have begun discussions on a joint research project to strengthen connected car technologies. The two companies will pursue this joint research with a view to the future adoption of 5G standards.
Next year, SoftBank will install experiential 5G base stations at Honda R&D’s facilities to start joint research under the 5G environment.
The two companies said they will work to develop technologies and on-board antennas which will enable a stable handover of base stations for communication by a vehicle moving at high-speed.
SoftBank and Honda will also work on the development of technologies that can secure data sending/receiving performance in areas with a weak signal as well as data processing technologies.
The Japanese partners will also focus on the development of other technological development for various other usages.
