Poles will support IoT, Wi-Fi, autonomous driving and smart lighting
A subsidiary of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate with French lighting company Ragni Group to develop smart lighting poles. The deal was signed by Innogy International Middle East, which was established by DEWA and Europe’s Innogy, and Ragni Group, the leading French lighting company.
“The MoU with Ragni Group to design and implement smart lighting poles, supports our efforts to provide a smart infrastructure that achieves society happiness. The smart poles that will be produced in the first quarter of 2018, combine multiple innovative features that support smart-city infrastructure according to the highest international standards,” Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, said. “These features support smart and green mobility, autonomous driving, Wi-Fi internet, internet of things (IoT), energy-saving lighting, environmental intelligence, and other innovative features that streamline the smart-city transformation.”
Miami-Dade starts deploying 300 smart traffic signals
In related news, Miami-Dade County confirmed a total of 300 new smart traffic signals will be installed by the end of September. The smart traffic signals will be fully operational by the end of the year, local authorities said.
Mayor Carlos Giménez said that all 3,000 county traffic signals will eventually join the smart network in the future.
California-based company Econolite Control Products has won the $11.1 million contract with Miami-Dade to expand a pilot program that introduced new technology to operate traffic lights according to the changing flow of vehicles.
During the 2016 pilot project, a number of smart street signals had been installed along Miami’s Northwest 36th street, which resulted in a reduction in average travel time of about 10 minutes.
