DT said partners for its public cloud include Akamai and Bitnami, and support for a big data analytics SaaS platform.
Deutsche Telekom announced SAP users can now run their applications, book a service managed by T-Systems experts or have customers test SAP HANA and S/4HANA software via the telecom operators Open Telekom Cloud platform.
DT said it recently added Akamai and Bitnami services to its public cloud offering, which the carrier launched early last year. Bitnami is a software library containing around 150 applications, including content management, e-learning, business intelligence and development tools. Bitami users can use the launch pad to search the Open Telekom Cloud to find and launch their preferred apps. Deutsche Telekom said customers running web shops on the platform can now also use Akamai content delivery services, which are designed to accelerate and optimize websites and cloud applications on desktops and mobile devices.
DT also announced a big data software-as-a-service suite designed to allow customers to run analytics using MapReduce/Hadoop. The carrier claims the public cloud platform served nearly 65,000 users at the end of last year.
Germany to invest $106 billion to deploy national broadband network
Germany’s Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure unveiled plans to invest 100 billion euros ($106.7 billion) to deploy a nationwide broadband network by 2025. Federal Minister Alexander Dobrindt said the network infrastructure will include fiber and “5G” technologies.
The network is expected to support growing data demand from applications such as virtual reality and the internet of things. The project will be led by Netzallianz Digitales Deutschland, a public-private consortium between the government and telecom operators. The consortium was founded in March 2014, with plans to cooperate on the promotion of broadband expansion across the European country.
