A network in the digital age should be “a network in the cloud for the cloud”, said Huawei as it announced a new SDN-based network architecture.
Huawei has launched Agile Network 2016, a SDN-based network architecture that promises to offer a network that is on-demand, has self-services, offers easy management and is both secure and trusted. The message presented by the vendor at its global conference Huawei Connect 2016 is clear: the biggest challenge faced by enterprises is digital transformation and the cloud will be central to this transformation: by partnering with Huawei, carriers could improve their position to address this fast-growing market. “What should a network be like in the digital age? A network for the cloud by the cloud,” said Liu Shaowei, president, Huawei enterprise network product line, during a keynote at Huawei Connect 2016 in Shanghai on Thursday.
Huawei’s Agile Network 2016 includes Cloud Campus and CloudVPN. Cloud Campus uses cloud technology to achieve campus network planning, deployment and O&M for the full lifecycle network cloud management, Huawei explained. The aim is not only to serve small- to medium-sized campus but also medium- to large-sized campuses. Available on a lease or buy basis, Cloud Campus lets customers build enterprise-level cloud management platforms, in addition to letting them choose services provided by Huawei or service providers. CloudVPN aims at competing with private lines, providing a more cost-efficient solution using SD WAN technology.
Multiple new cloud services
In order to help accelerate enterprises’ transition to the cloud, Huawei announced today the release of no fewer than 31 new cloud services. “We begin with the end in mind,” said Zheng Yelai, president, Huawei IT product line, as he unveiled the new cloud services during a keynote. Huawei reaffirmed it has identified an opportunity with differentiated industry clouds, expecting the amount of enterprise applications hosted in the cloud to increase from 20 percent today to 85 percent by 2025.
