New solutions to be based on SK Telecom ThingPlug platform
SK Telecom inked an agreement with networking giant Cisco Systems to develop new solutions for “Internet of Things” technology, The Korea Herald reported.
Under terms of the agreement, the two companies will develop new solutions combining SK Telecom’s platform ThingPlug and Cisco’s infrastructure application technology Fog Computing, which offers real-time data analysis. SK Telecom and Cisco also said they aim to develop mobile applications and sensors will run the new IoT solutions.
SK Telecom reps said the goal of the new solutions is to reduce data traffic by processing information real time.
Earlier this month, SK Telecom, together with Samsung Electronics, Korea Electronics Technology Institute, Atmel and Axstone, successfully demonstrated interworking between heterogeneous IoT standards OneM2M and Open Interconnect Consortium. The demo was displayed at CES 2016.
For the demonstration the involved parties used ThingPlug, based on the OneM2M standard, Samsung Electronics’ OIC devices, Atmel’s sensor and lighting development kit, and a gateway applied with a “OneM2M-OIC Interworking Solution” developed by KETI and Axstone. The demo showed the successful control of the OIC devices via a smartphone by connecting the two different platforms.
Dell opens IoT lab in Singapore
In other APAC news, Dell opened its first dedicated “Internet of Things” lab in the Asia-Pacific region. Based within the Dell Solution Center in Singapore, the new facility was launched in collaboration with Intel. The lab features Dell and Intel IoT solutions with end-to-end platform facilities allowing customers to test the products. This is Dell’s third IoT-specific lab and follows the launch of its labs in Silicon Valley, and Limerick, Ireland.
