EMEA CEOs: Teclo Networks speeds LTE

Jane Walerud.I recently had the opportunity to meet with Jane Walerud, CEO of Teclo Networks to learn more about the company’s offering, the startup environment in Sweden and her insights gained from being a female CEO in the world of technology. While it seems the last item shouldn’t need to be mentioned in 2015, it still does as I rarely encounter female CEOs in high-tech.

Let’s start with Teclo Networks. At the simplest level, Teclo helps service providers improve their network performance, reduce costs and increase ROI. Through the use of TCP optimization, LTE network performance can be improved on average by 20%, although in some cases they have seen improvement of up to 60%. Traffic using protocols such as TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, SMTP and IMAP across all mobile networks ranging from 2G to LTE and Wi-Fi can be addressed. By increasing the performance of these networks the mobile subscribers ultimately receive a better quality of experience with data and, in turn, may purchase larger data packages from their mobile provider. The provider is able to support these requirements without the need to deploy additional capacity since the performance of their network has improved.  The product is an inline solution requiring no client-side software.

Stream Technologies announced its partnership with Teclo Networks to optimize its network performance for M2M and “Internet of Things” connectivity. If the network allows for sensors to communicate bursts of data more efficiently through a faster transfer time, it requires less battery power and increases the time the sensors can remain in place with human interaction. Stream Technologies delivers end-to-end wireless network services for M2M via its cloud-based IoT-X platform operating across mobile and satellite infrastructure.

I’ve been giving a great deal of praise to the startup climate in Finland; but what about Sweden? Like Finland, there is a good amount of government support for this community and more incubators opening on a regular basis. There are some notable success stories from this market that you may not realize are from Sweden. Spotify is one example and another is King Digital. King brought us Candy Crush Saga, a distraction that I’m sure many of us wish had never been invented, but a great success nonetheless.

It’s also important to not overlook women in tech. Walerud is a serial entrepreneur who was only 8 years old when she had her first startup experience. She refers to herself as a serial entrepreneur; having been involved in 15 ventures and today is an angel investor helping others get off the ground. When discussing the lack of women in CEO roles in technology companies, her view is that the challenge is actually about getting women interested in tech early in their education. She feels this is really the root of this issue.

Jane is an experienced telecoms executive and entrepreneur. She has worked for Ericsson and Telia as well as co-founded a telecom supplier, Bluetail (acquired by Alteon/Nortel in 2000). Since then, she has worked as an executive and business angel in high-tech startups.
