Sprint Nextel reportedly plans to market its own smartphone brand. Engadget reports that ZTE will manufacture the LTE phone for Sprint and that it will be called the Vital.

- The Vital is reportedly an Android 4.1 LTE phone with 5 inch screen powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor. It has 1GB of RAM and a 13-megapixel rear camera as well as an NFC chip.
- “It seems to be a play by Sprint to have a low end large screen alternative to the HTC One and Galaxy S IV,” said John Feland of Argus Insights. “It seems like a good idea for ZTE and Sprint to partner on a gateway phone to starter users the way that Nokia did with the Lumia 900 last year. It will be interesting to see if the ZTE hardware delivers on the promise.”
- In other news, Google has brought the latest version of its Gmail app to iOS, meaning that iPhone and iPad users can now use all the latest Gmail features, including notifications of emails from certain people.
- And Verizon Wireless has extended its agreement with the National Football League to stream NFL games to football fans on its network. The NFL Mobile App will add all post season playoff games, including the 2014 Superbowl.
