PT Bakrie deploys Smith Micro Experience Manager platform

An Indonesian wireless operator is the first to deploy Smith Micro Software Inc.’s (SMSI) new Experience Manager platform, which enables end users to manage all of their wireless connections and data plans across their devices and networks.
The Experience Manager platform also enables operators to show end users new content and services that they may want to buy. PT Bakrie Connectivity is deploying the service on its AHA (Affordable Hyper speed Access) Network, across a range of devices that includes laptops, tablets, smartphones, USB modems and mobile hotspots. Operators can use the platform to reduce support costs and improve the user experience by simplifying broadband usage for end users. PT Bakrie can access a variety of services, including TV and email, as well as access to Facebook and Twitter. The platform includes set-up wizards and tutorials, as well as account and usage information so customers can better manage their bills. PT Bakrie can also use the service to offer context-based advertising for new and premium to increase revenues from subscribers.
Operators can use the platform to show end users their data usage, which will be important when carriers introduce tiered pricing plans, said Sunil Marolia, VP, Product Management at Smith Micro. In addition, operators can upsell premium services, offer “try and buy” services. The service offers end users a better out-of-the-box experience too, he said. “We don’t forget about our connectivity DNA.”

“The mobile internet is booming in Indonesia, a country with 238 million residents and more than half carrying mobile devices,” said Erik Meijer, president director and CEO of PT Bakrie Connectivity. “We are very excited to launch this new mobile internet dashboard for our customers. We have worked hard and closely with Smith Micro to get to a relevant version of their Experience Manager customized for our needs in the Indonesian market. The result will provide a substantially enhanced customer experience and provide us with another competitive advantage in the market.”
The Experience Manager platform builds on Smith Micro’s SODA platform, which provides a consistent interface across mobile broadband devices, form factors, hardware and software manufacturers, chipset suppliers and operating systems.
