PHILADELPHIA – Despite the name, mobile networks are in fact heavily reliant on stationary objects that require significant infrastructure to make them go. This is usually not a problem for most consumers as this embedded infrastructure allows them to roam around the world with their mobile devices.
However, there are some instances where a mobile network needs to be truly mobile in that the infrastructure needs to be both portable and easy to set up. Enter Malvern, Pa.-based Rajant Corp., which provides just such a solution.
Taking inspiration from the devastation of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, Rajant has developed technology and devices that allow for the rapid deployment of a mobile network that can connect thousands of devices all backhauled through a single or multiple sources.
Backing the importance of Rajant’s technology is the primary financial backing the firm receives from the U.S. Department of Defense, as well as other investments from venture capital firms. While the technology is currently being used by both military and the mining industries, Rajant is looking to expand the offering to the energy/gas/oil industries, including a proposed solution that would mesh together the thousands of oil rigs currently dotting the Gulf of Mexico.
During RCR Wireless News’ recent visit to the Philadelphia area as part of the Global Tour, we visited Rajant’s headquarters to get a demonstration of its offering.
