Smith Micro | March 23, 2011 | Press Release

World’s Prominent Players in Industry Recognized as Spearheading Involvement in Standardization of API for Global Wireless Communications

CTIA WIRELESS 2011

ALISO VIEJO, Calif.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Smith Micro Software, Inc. (NASDAQ:SMSI), a leading developer and marketer of software solutions and services for the mobility market, today announced the recipients of the 2011 Innovator Awards, which recognize prominent wireless executives and companies spearheading participation in the SODA™ (Secure On-Device API) Innovator Program. Honorees included Sprint, Reliance Communications, PT Bakrie Connectivity, MCCI, GCT Semiconductor, Comcast Corporation, Bouygues Telecom, Bell Canada, and AT&T International.

“We are pleased with the progress made with the SODA Innovator Program, since first initiated in January and adopted by the group recognized at the Award ceremony, and are continuously receiving interest from other wireless industry leaders and luminaries.”

“The 2011 Innovator Awards honor this visionary group of early adopters who are dedicated to identifying transformative ways to bring the best products and services to the market on a global scale, and as SODA Innovator Program participants, the honorees are leading an international movement towards a standardized solution for mobile device communications worldwide,” said William W. Smith, Jr., President and CEO at Smith Micro Software. “We are pleased with the progress made with the SODA Innovator Program, since first initiated in January and adopted by the group recognized at the Award ceremony, and are continuously receiving interest from other wireless industry leaders and luminaries.”

SODA is a global solution for device communications that provides a consistent interface across all mobile broadband devices, hardware and software manufacturers, chipset suppliers, and operating systems. The result is faster time to market with increased quality and more consistent user experience across the wireless ecosystem. When implemented into mobile wireless devices, SODA provides awareness of bandwidth issues, billing issues, and additional features that are important to the optimal performance of mobile devices and wireless networks. The Innovator Program gives the wireless industry the ability to leverage SODA as it deploys new mobile products and services.

SODA enables mass-market adoption of wireless services and promotes the use of mobile broadband products across a larger demographic. Proactive notifications inform customers about their battery level, network coverage (4G/3G), billing, data usage and other critical information.

Benefits of the SODA Innovator Program include:

  • Access to the SODA specification
  • Advanced lead time for IP development of custom SODA modules
  • Early integration for hardware vendors and device priority

Smith Micro Software was recently named a Top 5 Finalist in the CTIA Wireless Big Idea Contest, at the International CTIA Wireless 2011 conference, with SODA. Visit www.smithmicro.com for more information.
