LAS VEGAS – Unless copy and paste is your thing, Microsoft Corp. (MSFT) doesn’t appear to have any major news to share on the mobile front at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show.
During his opening keynote Wednesday night, CEO Steve Ballmer made the biggest waves with Microsoft’s other products and services, but he did devote at least part of his time on stage to Windows Phone 7.
A series of updates will bring copy and paste to the new platform and make “significant performance improvement when loading or switching applications,” he said.
Having been on the market for less than three months now, more than 100 new applications are released for Windows Phone 7 every day on average and more than half of the early users are downloading a new app every day, he added.
“Windows Phone 7 is dramatically different than other phones. We approached the opportunity with a pretty fresh and unique perspective,” Ballmer said.
When Microsoft set out to develop the new platform it wanted to “simplify the tasks that people use their phone for the most,” he continued.
“We’re proud of what the customers are saying about Windows Phone 7,” Ballmer said, concluding it’s “the best new phone out there.”
