RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec. 28 (Xinhua) — Online Christmas sales in Brazil reached 2.2 billion reais (1.3 billion U.S. dollars) in 2010, up 40 percent from the same period last year, a Sao Paulo-based consulting company e-bit said on Tuesday.
According to e-bit, the e-commerce sector in Brazil had its best Christmas ever. Six million online purchases were made from November 15 to December 24 with an average value of 370 reais (218 U.S. dollars) per purchase.
“Once more there was a notable evolution in e-commerce during the Christmas season,” said e-bit’s General Director Pedro Guasti.
He said that Brazilian consumers have become more confident to make expensive purchases online such as computers and other electronics appliances. Online shopping in this country used to be dominated by cheaper products such as books and DVDs.
