South Korean operator LG Uplus has chosen three suppliers to supply equipment required to set up its next-generation network. The mobile carrier, formerly LG Telecom, will deploy the LTE network and start operating from July 2011.
The contracts have been awarded to Samsung Electronics, LG-Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks. The details of the deals with the three vendors have not yet been disclosed.
LG Uplus is the first carrier in South Korea to pick suppliers for LTE equipment. The network will help fulfil the growing demand for wireless data service.
Rivals SK Telecom and KT are both planning to start LTE networks in the next two years.
