U.S. Cellular says: "Free phones for all!"

Fresh off its strong showing in the latest consumer satisfaction survey from Consumer Reports, U.S. Cellular Corp. (USM) plans to go for broke during the remainder of the holiday shopping season announcing all of its phones will be free from Dec. 17 through Dec. 24. In addition the carrier will provide a $100 credit towards new customers purchasing a smart phone or existing customers adding a new smart phone line of service.
The offering does require a new two-year contract, though through the carrier’s recently unveiled The Belief Project, it will be the only contract a customer will need to sign. In addition, those customers that have already signed up for the program and are eligible for a phone upgrade do not have to sign a new contract.
U.S. Cellular recently fleshed out its prepaid offerings that included lower price points and data options.
The holiday push could help the carrier turn around its slumping customer growth numbers as it lost 41,000 customers during the third quarter of this year.
