NEW YORK, Dec. 13, 2010 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ —
A Focus on Context, Ubiquity, Privacy and Security Takes Center Stage at Inaugural MEF Americas Event
Held earlier this month, MEF Americas 2010: Mobile Content & Commerce connected over 200 North and Latin American influencers from the worlds of retail, entertainment, mobility and technology in Miami for two days of focused deal-making and industry-shaping debate. Attendees from some of the largest and most influential global brands including Nokia, Sony Pictures, Coca-Cola, Macy’s, NCR, Pearson, Samsung, RIM and Dolby gathered to discuss the business issues and opportunities surrounding mobile content and commerce.
“In 2010, a new bar has been set for entertaining, engaging and enriching the lives of the always-connected, mobile savvy consumer,” said Rimma Perelmuter, Executive Director, MEF. “In order to meet and exceed consumer expectations, carriers, brands, content owners, retailers, OEMs and technology partners must work to address the dynamics of this expanding ecosystem with a huge potential for growth. MEF Americas 2010: Mobile Content & Commerce has established a unique annual gathering for leaders across the Americas to galvanize and drive content, personal transactions and services set to benefit nearly 1 billion consumers.”
During the event, MEF keynotes presented three industry visions, unified by the catalyst of the mobile connected device:
1. Context is now King
2. Cross-platform delivery is essential but the uniqueness of the mobile channel must still be recognized
3. Mobile commerce presents important revenue opportunities but privacy & security are paramount
To address these opportunities and challenges, MEF announced its landmark Unified Code of Conduct in Brazil and the launch of its Mobile Commerce Security & Privacy Initiative. Each of these initiatives will encourage future innovation in mobile content and commerce, whilst creating best practices to protect the consumer.
“One of MEF’s goals for the event was to exploit the organization’s global footprint and strong representation in both regions to facilitate cross-border business,” said Ron Czerny, Chair, MEF LATAM. “Utilizing innovative programming including a roundtable Leadership Summit format, MEF facilitated an interactive discussion amongst business leaders to take a deep dive into the industry’s critical issues and business opportunities.”
“MEF Americas 2010: Mobile Content & Commerce exceeded expectations on all levels,” said Gary Schwartz, Chair, MEF North America. “The quality of attendees, the pace of business conducted and the level of discussion will have a noticeable impact on the industry over the coming months. With initiatives planned for LATAM and North America to address critical mobile commerce and regulatory issues, along with 2011 events planned for each continent, MEF will be executing upon the business objectives agreed at this inaugural event. Planning has already begun for MEF Americas 2011.”
