Korea’s KT has this week formed a partnership with Facebook, making it the first Korean Telco to enter into an agreement with the incredibly popular social networking site.
The service is available on any standard phone produced by KT telecom and the smartphone.
Subscribers to the carrier can now log in by entering a code and leave messages for their fellow facebookers or access the instant messaging function.
The partnership has unsurprisingly brought about a case of the green eyed monster from competing Korean Telco company SK telecom.
SK has responded to the alliance by setting up m.nate.com, a mobile web service available through SK communication’s Cyworld for the Apple iPhone.
Having previously lead the social media sector in Korea, SK is hoping that m.nate.com will help it in a bid to ‘save face’.
With Facebook currently running to around 400 million active users and its popularity in Korea having increased twofold since February, KT telecom may well have struck gold with this partnership.
And let’s face it, SK telecom has a tough act to follow.
