Alliances: Cellular South offers Thumbplay; Nuance and IBM tackle speech; Axel and Symbio

Mobile entertainment company Thumbplay and Cellular South signed a deal that allows Cellular South customers to access the new cloud-based Thumbplay Music service. The service gives customers unlimited, on-demand access to a portfolio of songs directly from their handset and allows them to download the Thumbplay Music application directly from Cellular South’s Discover Center Web site.

Nuance Communications Inc. and IBM entered a five-year joint-research initiative aimed at advancing next-generation natural language speech technologies. The partnership takes advantage of both companies’ expertise in the natural language speech space to expand use of speech technology worldwide and to set benchmarks in design, usability and technical excellence.

Axel Technologies and Symbio announced a partnership to accelerate development of Axel’s Fuugo next-generation TV application for mobile and portable devices. Axel said it will use Symbio’s expertise in mobile, Android and multimedia integration to bring the application to market later this year.

Meru Networks Inc. teamed with SolarWinds Inc. in a deal that calls for Meru to resell SolarWinds’ Orion Network Performance Monitor with its E(z)RF Network Manager product.

Mobile billing provider txtNation announced a partnership with Failsafe Payments Certo Payment Gateway. The deal adds 70 new markets for Certo Payment Gateway’s online mobile billing coverage through txtNation’s JunglePay service.

BT Global Services selected Tyntec to provide its SMS hubbing technology to be included in BT’s Global Telecom Markets portfolio. The deal calls for BT to combine Tyntec’s International Messaging Transit technology into its wholesale offerings for mobile network operators and MVNO clients.

HipLogic and U.K. mobile phone retailer The Carphone Warehouse announced a partnership that calls for The Carphone Warehouse to offer HipLogic Live, a free application that allows users to connect to social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter.

Franklin Wireless Corp. and Samsung Electro-Mechanics Co. signed a manufacturing agreement that calls for Samsung to manufacture and supply a new broadband module that Franklin will use in its dual-mode 3G/4G USB modems.

KORE Telematics has deployed Cisco’s ASR 1000 Series Aggregation Services Routers to support the company’s growth. The routers were deployed via Compugen, a Cisco partner, to help KORE scale its business to support more than 11 million wireless devices.

Synchronica plc, which provides mobile e-mail, instant messaging and data synchronization, said it has been chosen by an operator in Panama to offer its Mobile Gateway mobile e-mail product.
