Alcatel-Lucent said it has received FCC certification for its LTE base stations designed to use the 700 MHz frequency band auctioned by the FCC in 2008 and expected to be the backbone for initial LTE deployments by Verizon Wireless and AT&T Mobility.
The Franco-American venture said the new compact base stations, which are shipping now, are a key component of its Converged Radio Access offering and comply with the latest 3GPP standards.
Alcatel-Lucent won a significant portion of Verizon Wireless’ LTE contract that is set to support two trial markets to be launched by the end of the year and up to 30 markets by the end of 2010.
