Google Inc. is targeting carriers and third-party mobile Web publishers with a new embeddable search box.
The developer quietly rolled out “AdSense for mobile search,” which enables portals to place a Google-branded search box on their sites. Results are delivered through Google’s engine and automatically formatted for mobile phones, and carriers and third parties share in revenues generated by ads delivered with the results.
“AdSense for mobile search is a Google-hosted solution, which means users will experience the same speed, reliability and innovation that they’ve come to expect from Google,” a product manager posted on the company’s mobile blog. “And even though the results pages are served by Google, the pages can be cobranded with publishers’ logos and linked back to their sites.”
The offering builds on Google’s move in 2007 to bring AdSense to mobile, allowing publishers with mobile-friendly sites to accept ads on their Web pages. AdSense places links on relevant Web pages, paying owners of the sites every time a user clicks on the link.
