Google Inc. brought AdSense to mobile, allowing publishers with mobile-friendly Web sites to accept ads on their Web pages.
AdSense places links on relevant Web pages, paying owners of the sites every time a user clicks on the link. A news site could include ads from political candidates, for instance, while a popular sports blog could feature ads for professional teams.
“If you have a Web site optimized for mobile browsers, or are interested in creating one, you can start monetizing your mobile site by accessing a growing number of our mobile advertisers,” according to Google’s blog. “When you add the new AdSense for mobile code to your site, we’ll display relevant ads using the same targeting technology that you are familiar with for existing AdSense products.
The move follows last week’s rollout of AdWords Mobile, which allows advertisers to buy space on Google’s search results. That service has been criticized by pure-play entrepreneurs, however, who say the company’s transcoding technology fails to deliver an adequate user experience.
