The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi, and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.
Cellular
–Russia: Vimpelcom chose Huawei Technologies to supply equipment for 3G infrastructure.
WiMAX
–Italy: Linkem Spa, an Italian broadband wireless service provider, said it plans to deploy a nationwide WiMAX network using Alvarion‘s 4Motion solution for the 3.5 GHz frequency band. The first phase of the project started in October and provides voice and data services to small office/home office clients, businesses and vertical markets.
–Japan: Airspan Networks said it provided a WiMAX network for broadband carrier Okinawa Telemessage Co. Ltd. The 4.9 GHz network will eventually consist of 200 Airspan base stations throughout Okinawa.
