Venture capital financing wrap-up: Mavenir, Roundbox, Taptu and more

The following list includes venture capital and other investments into wireless companies announced during the past week. The value of the investment is included when available.
Mavenir: An undisclosed new investor led a $17.5 million third round of funding into Mavenir Systems, which provides mobile convergence applications and solutions. Existing investors Austin Ventures, North Bridge Venture Partners and Alloy Ventures also participated. The company said it has raised a total of $51 million since Oct. 2005. Mavenir said it will use the funds to expand its product offering, continue product implementation and extend its geographic coverage.
Pixim: Mayfield Fund, Ridgewood Capital and Tallwood Venture Capital invested $13 million into Pixim Inc., which provides image sensors and processors for enterprise security cameras. The company said it will use the funding to accelerate worldwide growth, invest in new product development and expand its channel marketing programs. Pixim is based in Mountain View, Calif.
Roundbox: Montagu Newhall Associates led a $20 million Series C funding round into mobile broadcast software company Roundbox Inc. Existing investors Core Capital Partners, Polaris Venture Partners and RRE Ventures also participated in the round along with strategic investor Itochu Techno-Solutions Corp. and Silicon Valley Bank, which provided venture debt financing to the company. The company said it will use the funding to invest in product development and customer delivery solutions.
Shout’Em: Bicro Seed Fund invested nearly $500,000 into Shout’Em. The company said it will use the funding to improve its hosted microblogging service as well as to develop native Shout’Em mobile applications for the iPhone, Windows Mobile and Android platforms.
Taptu: 3i and Sofinnova invested $9.8 million in a Series B funding round into mobile search engine Taptu. At the same time, Taptu appointed Andreas Bernstrom as its chief operating officer.
Vangard: Berkshire Ventures invested $2 million in Series B funding into voice technology company Vangard Voice Systems Inc. The funding will be used to continue marketing the company’s Mobile Voice Platform, said the company.
