Platform-A targets iPhone

AOL L.L.C.’s Platform-A debuted a mobile platform and network specifically for serving ads to Apple Inc.’s iPhone.
The new offering, which is available through AOL’s Third Screen Media subsidiary, delivers targeted, iPhone-optimized ads through sites within Third Screen’s mobile network, Advertising.com’s online network or any of AOL’s media properties. And the service uses Third Screen technology to redirect iPhone users to Web sites specifically created for the device.
“We can not only help advertisers effectively reach iPhone users on WAP pages and Web pages,” said Lynda Clarizio, president of Platform-A, “but we can also deliver banners optimized for display on the iPhone.”
The result of a billion-dollar spending spree that saw AOL snap up Third Screen and four online players, Platform-A has gained traction in mobile in recent months even as it struggles on the Internet. The business has struck on-deck deals with Verizon Wireless and Virgin Mobile USA, and it unveiled plans three months ago to open its network to third-party ad servers.
