Regional wireless provider Cellular South said it is teaming with fellow Mississippian BancorpSouth Inc. to expand its m-banking offerings.
The Web-based application allows BancorpSouth customers to view account balances and history, transfer funds and pay bills from a Cellular South phone. The service is powered by Firethorn Holdings L.L.C., a 7-year-old outfit that last year was acquired by Qualcomm Inc. for $210 million.
“Mobile banking is the first step in introducing mobile commerce to customers,” said Firethorn CEO Tripp Rackley. Cellular South also offer mobile banking services for customer of Bank of America; the carrier last year teamed with Obopay to launch a mobile payment service.
