Moto unveils consumer-facing content site

Motorola Inc. is hoping to build consumer relationships with a new site showcasing applications from its developer community and other third-party vendors.
The handset manufacturer debuted its Comprehensive Solutions Catalog, a consumer-facing site with screen shots and descriptions of a range of applications for entertainment, business and personal productivity. Members of Motorola’s MOTODEV community can post their own offerings with information as well as links to purchase applications.
“Applications are key to differentiating and enhancing the overall product experience,” said Christy Wyatt, VP of software platforms and ecosystem at Motorola. “By using our new Motorola Solutions Catalog, developers can easily and quickly bring their innovative applications directly to end users so they can do even more with their Motorola products.”
The site mirrors recent efforts by fellow hardware companies Apple Inc. and Nokia Corp. to help deliver content directly to consumers without carrier intervention. Unlike its competitors’ sites, though, Motorola simply provides links to the sites of publishers (such as Gameloft and Orneta) and distributors (such as Handmark).
