Qwest adds EV-DO Rev. A service

Qwest Communications International Inc. has started offering mobile broadband service using Sprint Nextel Corp.’s CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A network.
The Qwest Wireless Mobile Broadband card from UT Starcom is priced at $50 with a two-year service agreement, $100 with a one-year agreement or $210 without a contract. The company offers three service plans for the offering, including an $80 “unlimited” option-which according to Qwest’s terms and conditions is capped at 5 gigabytes of data transmission per month.
Subscribers to Qwest’s DSL Internet service are eligible for a $20 monthly discount on the wireless data plans, and high-speed Internet customers who have a two- or three-year contract are also eligible for an additional $50 rebate on the mobile broadband card.
Qwest operates a mobile virtual network operator service through Sprint Nextel’s network. Qwest’s new offering is likely the first time that one of Sprint Nextel’s MVNO partners has begun selling the carrier’s new Rev. A service.
