Verizon Wireless said it is now offering its customers access to ESPN MVP content.
ESPN MVP gives Verizon Wireless’ Vcast subscribers access to content such as SportsCenter video highlights, game score alerts, breaking sports news updates, ESPN Gamecast, and news on players, teams and leagues. Verizon Wireless customers also will have access to exclusive content including fantasy team management, ESPN Insider content and ESPN Bottomline.
The content will be available to Vcast subscribers free of charge, with optional alerts available for an extra charge.
The deal springs from the demise of Mobile ESPN, the sports channel’s mobile virtual network operator effort that ran on Sprint Nextel Corp.’s CDMA network. The business shut down late last year, after less than a year in operation, due to sluggish subscriber adds.
Earlier this year Verizon Wireless announced it would carry the ESPN MVP content, which formed the heart of ESPN’s MVNO effort.
