Pocket touts customer growth in San Antonio

Pocket Communications, a small, all-you-can-eat carrier in San Antonio, said it has surpassed 85,000 customers in that market and is touting that fact in new radio advertising the company launched to help it compete with the large national carriers.
The company claims it sells more phones each month in San Antonio than any other carrier.
Pocket is immersed in a low-cost battle in San Antonio and Laredo, Texas with Leap Wireless International Inc. and other carriers. Paul Posner, chief executive officer and owner of Pocket Communications, said recently that Pocket is exceeding his performance projections in San Antonio while Leap “is clearly struggling in the market.”
Pocket offers service plans for as low as $28 per month, which includes unlimited calling within the company’s service area. For an additional $5, customers get access to unlimited long-distance. For $37, the company offers unlimited local voice calling, unlimited domestic long-distance, unlimited text messaging, unlimited picture messaging and three-way calling. The company does not require a contract, deposit or credit check.
The company launched service in San Antonio in June.
