Orb Networks Inc. co-founder and chairman Joe Costello will take the reins as CEO of the place-shifting technology provider.
Costello also currently serves as chairman of software developer think3, and spent a decade as president and CEO of Cadence Design Systems Inc.
Orb has gained traction in recent months with software that allows users to access their home cable TV and digital music from any Web-enabled device, including mobile phones. The company’s partners include Nokia Corp., Orange, Vodafone Group plc and wireless services provider 3, which recently launched mobile Web service with Orb, Sling Media Inc. and other Internet companies.
“Joe is a visionary who anticipated media convergence on the Internet in the late 1990s,” said Gary Morgenthaler, an Orb board member and partner at Morgenthaler Ventures. “He co-founded Orb to execute on a vision that gave users access to all their digital media in an easy, secure and cost-effective way.”
Costello apparently replaces Jim Behrens, who was still listed as CEO on the company’s Web site following Tuesday morning’s announcement. An Orb representative was not available to discuss Behrens’ move.
