SAN DIEGO-Now that Qualcomm Inc.’s acquisition of Airgo Networks Inc. is out of the bag, the companies announced the availability of an 802.11n Draft 2.0 Wi-Fi chipset featuring Airgo’s TrueMIMO Gen-N Technology.
The companies said the AGN400 is Airgo’s fourth-generation 802.11n-compliant chipset and noted that it has full compatibility with the 11n interoperability specification selected by the Wi-Fi Alliance.
“Now that Qualcomm is acquiring Airgo, PC notebook customers can count on a single supply source for wireless chipsets that deliver industry-leading Wi-Fi connectivity when a Wi-Fi network is available, and seamless connectivity everywhere else using 3G CDMA cellular broadband access technology,” boasted Greg Raleigh, president and chief executive of Airgo.
The AGN400 chipset will be on display in January at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, and products containing the new chip are expected to be commercially available in the first quarter of next year, the companies said.
