The following list details this week’s infrastructure awards for the cellular, Wi-Fi and WiMAX industries. The contracts are broken down by transmission technology, country and vendor. The value of the contract is included when available.

Cellular
- Pakistan: L.M. Ericsson said it signed a $274 million agreement to expand Warid Telecom’s GSM network. The agreement includes Ericsson’s Mobile Softswitch solution, radio, transmission and packet core network equipment as well as multimedia services.
- Philippines: Globe Telecom selected Nokia Corp. to modernize its network, including renewing the carrier’s core network and upgrading the Nokia mobile switching center to Nokia’s MSC Server mobile softswitch.
WiMAX
- Tonga: Alvarion Ltd. said Tonga Communications Corp. awarded it a contract to provide its BreezeMAX 3500 solution to cover the Kingdom of Tonga.
Miscellaneous
- Hong Kong: Motorola Inc. announced an agreement with PCCW-HKT Telephone Ltd. to conduct a six-month trial of Motorola’s end-to-end mobile TV system in the country.
- India: Venturi Wireless announced an agreement with Tata Teleservices Ltd. to provide its mobile data services optimization solution to be deployed throughout the carrier’s network. The multiyear agreement is valued at more than $7 million. Also in India, Nortel said it will provide a GSM-R network to Indian Railways.
- United States: NextG Networks Inc. said it deployed a multi-operator Distributed Antenna System Network at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana. In Texas, WFI said it has been selected to design and deploy a mesh network and IP surveillance network for the Metropolitan Transit Authority of Houston.
- Worldwide: SeaMobile Enterprises said it signed an agreement with Holland America cruise line to provide cellular phone service on board the company’s entire fleet of 13 ships.
