T-Mobile USA Inc. announced it will sell Nokia Corp.’s clamshell-style 6101 for $150. The device also will be added to the carrier’s T-Mobile To Go prepaid offering. The device features an integrated camera, FM radio and speakerphone.
“Nokia and T-Mobile have a long history of bringing stylish and innovative products and services to consumers, and our combined efforts to create the Nokia 6101 phone are the latest example of this shared commitment to excellence,” said Paul Chellgren, vice president of sales for Nokia.
Nokia first unveiled its 6101 model in February. The phone marked a notable evolution in Nokia’s handset strategy; the company said at the time that its carrier customers would be able to extensively customize the device. The move is a nod to the growing power of carriers over handset manufacturers. Nokia has long held out against the trend, but the 6101 signifies its further softening on the issue.
In other handset news, iDEN carrier SouthernLinc Wireless said it will sell the i560 and i850 devices from Motorola Inc.
