ATLANTA-Southern Telecom is expanding its Atlanta footprint by teaming with First Mile Communications LLC to offer Atlanta-area customers broadband fixed-wireless services. Southern Telecom said its new offering allows customers to determine their own migration paths to higher bandwidth by adding connectivity options.
“This agreement will customize a fixed-wireless offering allowing for economical customer growth and outreach,” said Ben Easterling, business and development manager for Southern Telecom.
“Broadband wireless is an exciting concept in communications because of its capacity, security and flexibility,” said Stanley Allen, president of First Mile Communications. “It offers an alternative connectivity option from fiber or other land-based networks.”
Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Southern Telecom, a subsidiary of Southern Co., which also owns wireless carrier SouthernLinc, provides long-haul and metropolitan dark fiber, connecting Atlanta with smaller cities in the Southeast. First Mile provides installation and operation of wireless links in Atlanta, transmitting from hub sites and sourcing from licensed spectrum.
