Boingo expands airport Wi-Fi network

SANTA MONICA, Calif.-Boingo Wireless Inc. reported roaming agreements that will add 36 airports in North America and Europe to its roaming system that now includes 169 airports worldwide.

Boingo said the North American roaming agreement with Opti-Fi Networks includes 30 airport locations in the United States and Canada, and calls for the roaming partnership to expand to an additional 28 airports in the near future. Boingo added that it now provides Wi-Fi access to 93 airports in North America.

Boingo’s European agreements cover Amsterdam Airport Schiphol in the Netherlands, Copenhagen Airport in Denmark, and four airports in Norway. Boingo said it now provides access to Wi-Fi networks in 39 European airports.

“Airports are high-value locations because they are such natural and convenient locations for W-Fi usage, which makes adding as many airports as possible to the Boingo network a key strategy in our network development,” said Colby Goff, senior vice president of network strategy for Boingo.

Boingo added that 80 percent of its network traffic occurs at airport locations.
