Sony Ericsson to embed Red Bend OTA phone software

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.-Red Bend Software announced a global agreement with Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications L.P. to embed Red Bend’s vCurrent Mobile over-the-air software update technology in Sony Ericsson mobile phones.

OTA technology allows handset makers and carriers to remotely fix phone software glitches and even introduce new software and applications.

The Sony Ericsson deal marks the second global agreement for Red Bend, allowing the company to supply its solution to multiple phones in multiple markets, according to Peter A. Cohen, vice president of corporate marketing at Red Bend.

Red Bend’s vCurrent technology is also scheduled to start shipping in Siemens’ 65 series mobile phones in November. The technology itself was first announced in late 2003.
