GSMA bestows awards

CANNES, France-The 2004 GSM Association Awards, sponsored by Intel, Microsoft, Vodafone, Nortel, Nokia and Convergys, were presented last night at 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France. The winners were:

  • Sony Ericsson Mobile Communications’ Sony Ericsson T610 device won for best mobile terminal handset or device.
  • The U.K.’s Argogroup’s Monitor Master User Experience Optimization Platform was awarded for best infrastructure/network solution product.
  • Vodafone Group plc was awarded best mobile application or service for the corporate market for its Vodafone Mobile Connect Card
  • SMART Communications Inc.’s SMART Load won the company best mobile application or service for the consumer market.
  • Ireland’s Valista won best mobile application developer.
  • Telecom Personal S.A.’s “CUBE” commercial, which aired in Argentina, won the best television or broadcast commercial.
  • T-Mobile International won for best brand, PR or marketing campaign for the re-branding of VoiceStream to T-Mobile USA.
  • O2 and “Milly’s Fund” won best use of mobile for accessibility for its “Teach UR Mum 2 TXT” personal safety campaign.
  • WideRay Corp. won best use of mobile for emergency situations for the Uganda Health Information Network.
  • ALVA B.V. won best use of mobile for special needs for its ALVA MPO.

Finally, China Mobile Communications Corp. won the GSM Association’s Chairman’s Award.

“President Zhang Li Gui and China Mobile are most deserving of this year’s award for their leadership in the global mobile communications industry and for an astonishing contribution to the achievement of 1 billion global GSM customers,” said Craig Ehrlich, chairman of the GSMA.

“We believe that when 3G licenses are issued in China, China will continue to lead the way in delivering the most advanced services in the world with 3GSM, and those services will help take us to the next billion customers,” Ehrlich added.
