VANCOUVER, British Columbia-Sierra Wireless is providing its AirCard 555 next-generation wireless CDMA2000 1X-based technology to law enforcement professionals in the Harris County, Texas, sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office is outfitting approximately 600 patrol vehicles and 300 detectives with the high-speed wireless technology to replace an existing CDPD solution.
With the AirCard 555, patrol officers can connect to the sheriff’s network to file accident reports and issue citations in real time, and detectives can search a variety of sources for mission-critical data. The sheriff’s office also plans to be able to identify suspects in the field using fingerprint collection and mug-shot display.
